Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark made sure her teammates felt her impact when they were out on the court despite being sidelined for their 79-52 win over the Chicago Sky.
Having faced off against each other during their 2025 WNBA season opener, a heated affair that the Fever won convincingly 93-58, Indiana headed into the rematch with the Sky minus their best player, Clark, who is currently dealing with a quadriceps injury.
They were also without head coach Stephanie White, who missed the game due to personal reasons. But, despite their absences, the Fever defeated Chicago convincingly once again, with guard Kelsey Mitchell top-scoring for Indiana with 17 points.
However, still keen to play her part in the Fever’s win over Chicago, Clark played her part from the bench.
The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year was spotted on the sideline of the court at United Center coaching up her teammates, whilst giving them advice during intervals.
The game against Chicago was the fourth Clark has missed due to her quad injury, but the Indiana star expects to be back sooner rather than later.
“I’ll miss this weekend’s game [Saturday against the Chicago Sky], but after that, it’s day-by-day and see how I feel, and just turn to the medical staff and what they think,” Clark said earlier in the week via ESPN.
“I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress and I feel good, and I’m not going to rush coming back. It’s just not worth it. But after this weekend, I’ll be reevaluated and we’ll have a better idea of when I’ll return.
Following the win over Chicago, Indiana is now slated to take on the Atlanta Dream next week on Tuesday, before facing off against the 2024 WNBA champions, the New York Liberty on June 14.
“We’ll see,” Clark added on whether she will be available for the game against Atlanta. “We’re trying not to put an exact date out there, because it is kind of a day-by-day thing and see how I feel.
“It’s the type of injury like, you don’t know, when I wake up, I’ll feel different than the day before. We’ll see. It could be a possibility, but I could also not be available for that game, too.”
And watching basketball from the bench has taught Clark, who started all 40 of the Fever’s 2024 regular season games last term, a lot according to the current face of the WNBA.
“It’s taught me a lot,” Clark said.
“I’ve never been in that position before of actually getting to watch from the bench for an extended period of time. … It’s the same as you turn on the TV and watch the NBA or you watch other WNBA games — that’s the best way to learn basketball, is just watch and absorb it, and it’s the same when I’m not active, too.”
